Let's suppose that you work everyday on two computers, one at home and one at work. You may need to access the files stored on a computer when using the other one once in a while. In this case, the Windows operating system alone can't help you, as it only has a feature for sharing files and folders over the network, but not the Internet. In this case, you will need to use a 3rd party application. Programs like QuickShare File Server can help you in this matter. It's a simple Windows application which acts as a FTP and HTTP server, allowing you to share and access your needed files and folders from any computer connected to the Internet.

After installing the program using its simple installer, the user will see a simple graphical interface which allows him to configure the program's settings in a very intuitive manner. As such, he can set the main folder which will be shared and he can also add more virtual folders. Besides that, he can add different users which will be able to access the FTP or HTTP server. Each user can have his own password and privileges, for example, certain users can upload files to the server using the web based interface.

After making all the necessary changes, one will be taken to the main interface of the program, where he can see all the shared files and folders, active connections, including the IP address and username of the person trying to access the server and also the current file operations. There is also a log available, which states all the operations performed to the server. All these sections are easily accessible thanks to the tabbed interface.

The user can stop the server at any moment, using the STOP button located in the program's toolbar. Using the same toolbar, one can test the FTP and HTTP connections, for making sure that everything is working properly.

Pros

It acts as a FTP and HTTP server, allowing you to have access to your files from any location on the Internet. Besides that, it allows adding different usernames and passwords with custom privileges. Furthermore, it can display current active connections in real time.

Cons

The program requires some knowledge regarding servers in order to be properly configured. QuickShare File Server allows you to have your own FTP and HTTP server, giving you easy and fast access to your files from any location on the Internet.
